Daniel Brumberg
Daniel Brumberg is Senior Adviser to the Center for Conflict Analysis
and Prevention, where he focuses on issues of democratization and
political reform in the Middle East and wider Islamic world. He is also
an associate professor at Georgetown University and a former senior
associate in the Carnegie Endowment’s Democracy and Rule of Law
Project (2003-04).

Steven A. Cook
Cook is
the Hasib J. Sabbagh Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern
Studies at the Council on Foreign Relationsand author of Ruling But Not Governing: The Military and Political
Development in Egypt, Algeria, and Turkey. He directed the
Council-sponsored Independent Task Force on U.S. policy toward reform in
the Arab world.

Larry Diamond
Larry Diamond is the founding coeditor of the Journal of Democracy and
also serves as senior consultant (and previously was codirector) at the
International Forum for Democratic Studies of the National Endowment for
Democracy. At Stanford University, Diamond is a senior fellow at the
Hoover Institution and at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International
Studies, where he also directs the Center on Democracy, Development, and
the Rule of Law.

Scott W. Hibbard
Scott Hibbard is an assistant Professor in the Department of Political
Science at DePaul University, where he teaches courses on American
Foreign Policy, Middle East Politics, and International Relations. He
spent the 2009-2010 academic year teaching at the American University of
Cairo as part of a Fulbright Award from the Department of State.
Hibbard received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University (2005), and
holds advanced degrees from the London School of Economics and Political
Science (MSc Political Theory, 1989), and Georgetown University (MA
Liberal Studies, 1988).

Abdeslam M. Maghraoui
Abdeslam M. Maghraoui, Associate Professor of Political Science at Duke University, is the author of Liberalism without Democracy: Nationhood and Citizenship in Egypt, 1922–1936. His current research studies competing Muslim conceptions of violence, morality, ethics, and authority in the context of Morocco.
